Sorry to hear of the death of John Earl, as we called him. My school mate at Dunbar High in Livingston and at Prairie View A&M. He was one of the greatest athlete to come through both schools, and he will truly be missed at alumni functions. Dolly, our prayers are with you and family at this time of bereavement, and you have our deepest sympathy. We hope you can take comfort in knowing that John prepared for this time and is now with the Lord. We comment you to God who is able to comfort and cheer, and will dry your tears and heal your broken heart. May God bless the family and give you strength and courage at this time of sorrow.

We are sending prayers and love to Mrs. Payton, Janice, and other family members. We know that God is continuously strengthening and comforting you. Mr. Payton was definitely a man of great character and integrity who was filled with love for his fellowman. We truly enjoyed he and Mrs. Payton's presence during the times they visited his home church, Anderson Chapel Baptist Church, Livingston, TX, with his mother. We encourage you to continue to lean on The Everlasting Arms of Jesus.

Came to know about coach Payton as an Alumni of PVU and later got to know him personally through my wife's grandfather Jessie Sweet who was a member of his Sunday school class. Was a freshman in 1964 at the PVIL State Championship League and was at the State Basketball Tournament when his Charleston -Pollard team won the title. Was a warm and approachable man and a man of great Faith. My wife and I send Condolences out to his Wife and family. In your time of grief, I leave you with this scripture, Colossians 2: 5 In your moments of grief, this will give you and your family comfort. God bless and be with you. LDW

To the family- A good heart has stopped beating and a good Soul has ascended into heaven. Continue to lift your eyes to the hills from whence cometh your help and know that all things are possible.
