Charles Jonas Lain Stevens, age 90, of San Antonio ,Texas died peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2020, in Harbor Hospice of Beaumont.


Charles was born November 13, 1929 in Lavaca county TX to A.I. Stevens Sr. and Anna Bell Whitfield Stevens. He graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School in San Antonio, TX. Immediately following He enlisted in the United States Army and served there for ten years and ten more years with the United States Marines.

Charles accepted Christ at an early age and was a longtime member East Saint Paul United Methodist Church until he relocated to Beaumont Texas in 2015. He became a member of Greater Grace Temple COGIC under the leadership of Superintendent R.N. Robinson.

A kind and caring man, Charles dedicated his life to his family and friends. Charles will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Beloved husband of the late (Louise Thebold).

He leaves to mourn step-children, Heidi Lewis Detroit, MI, Helca Henderson, Dale City, VA, Hildegard Sauer, and Hans Beter Stevens, both of Germany; nephew, Charles Stevens II (Barbara); great nephews, Charles Stevens III (Sharon), Elliott Stevens, and Mark Stevens (Claudia); great niece, Christine Jackson (Barry); great-great nephews, Travon Alexander-Stevens, and Jaylon Jackson and great-great niece, Faith Jackson. Charles also leaves to cherish his memory his first cousin Edwin Flowers and a host of other cousins.

He was a man who lived life to the fullest with no regrets. We will forever cherish the precious time we had with him. Rest well Uncle Charles.

On Saturday, February 15, 2020, there will be a visitation at 11a.m. and the Celebration of Life Service at 1 p.m. at Greater Grace Temple Church of God in Christ, 3540 S. 11th St. in Beaumont. He will take his earthly rest at the VA National Cemetery in Houston, TX with honors. Time and date to be announced.
