The Life of Mrs. Josephine Alfred Simpson

Josephine Alfred Simpson was born on October 31, 1936 as the baby to the late Eddie and Alberta Alfred in Beaumont, Texas and departed this life on May 5, 2020.
She attended the public schools of South Park Independent School District, where she graduated from Hebert High School in 1954. She then attended Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas where she earned her bachelor’s degree in early education in 1957. She later attended Prairie View A&M University where she earned her master’s degree in education. She taught school in Beaumont Independent School District where her career culminated at Odom Academy as a reading specialist.
She united with the Pleasant Green Baptist Church at an early age. She later united with the Greater Good Hope Baptist Church where she served as an usher and other auxiliaries at the church. She remained a faithful member of Greater Good Hope until her health began to fail.
She was involved in her community by volunteering her time to the YWCA of Beaumont, and the NAACP. Josephine was also an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
Josephine married the love of her life Homer Simpson, who preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Eddie Alfred, Jr, Willis Alfred and Albert Alfred.
She leaves a devoted niece who was like a daughter, Edith Jones (Darryl); niece, Sherry Lynn Alfred; great nephew, Samuel Alfred (Raine); brother, Carl Alfred (Bertha); raised as siblings, Algie Alfred (Betty), Edward Alfred, Lela Pratt, and Alice Celestine; best friend, Helen Smith; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
There will be a public visitation on Saturday, May 9, 2020 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Greater Good Hope Baptist Church, 2725 W. Virginia St. in Beaumont, Texas.
There will be a private entombment of Josephine where she will join her husband to take her earthly rest.
