My Course

Mary Cathryn “Bee” was born to Johnny and Bernice Boyd Player on December 27, 1934, in Gilliam, La.

Mary Cathryn was the fourth of ten children from this union.

Mary Cathryn attended Beaumont ISD schools, played the drums in the CP band and graduated from Charlton Pollard High School in the class of 1954. She attended Texas Southern University.

Mary Cathryn worked until the birth of her fourth child and the decision was made that she would become a homemaker.

“Bee” as some of her family and close friends affectionately her, attended Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church and at an early age accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord and immersed herself in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support, assurance and comfort.

Mary Cathryn was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church where she was very, very active with her Sunday School Class, and feeding the hungry and anything she was asked to assist with as long as it was bringing glory to God. She later joined Calvary Baptist Church until her death.

Mary Cathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Bernice Boyd Player; brothers, Hoover Plair and Flanola “Horn” Plair; sisters, Mary Helen Plair Butler and Rebecca Ann Plair Flanagan; great grandchild, Edyn Christian Cook.

Mary Cathryn “Bee” leaves to cherish memories her nine children: Lonnie Dee Flanagan, Jr. (Lydia), Jackie E. Flanagan, Eric Christopher Flanagan, I (Kim), Marilyn Flanagan Normand (Mitchell), David Solomon Flanagan, Sr., John Paul Flanagan, Sr. (Janet), Andrew Stephen Flanagan (Diane), Jerome Christian Flanagan, Mary Christine Flanagan Williams (Bernard); her brother, Robert Casanova Plair (Vicki); sisters, Ruth Boyd Plair Daniels, Josie Marie Plair Walters, Patricia Ann Player Doyle and Brenda Joyce Plair Howard.

Fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Mary Cathryn “Bee” answered her heavenly Father’s call on Thursday, June, 11, 2020.

On Wednesday, June 17, 2020 there will be a visitation from 9 a.m. until the Celebration of Life services at 11 a.m. for Mary Cathryn “Bee” at Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church, 1283 Cedar St., in Beaumont. She will take her earthly rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
