Rena Mae Babin Guillory was born the only child of the late Gretchen Simon Babin and Lionel Babin on September 16, 1970, in Lafayette, Louisiana. She departed this life on December 4, 2017.
Rena grew up in Loreauville, Louisiana, where she graduated from Loreauville High School in 1988. She graduated from McNeese State University with a degree in Mass Communications. While at McNeese, Rena was initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Rena began her television news career as a producer at KBMT Channel 12 in Beaumont, Texas, in 1993. In 1995, she became the morning show producer at KFDM Channel 6. Though she worked behind the scenes, she was known by many in the Southeast Texas community who appeared on the program, to which she tirelessly dedicated her expertise.
She exhibited her love for children through her participation with the Beaumont ISD’s Panther Productions, Kids Camp and the KFDM Tailgate Party—her station’s high school football highlights program.
Rena married her husband, Yorick “Rick” Guillory Jr. on September 20, 1997. Their union produced one son, Simon Elijah Guillory.
Rena was preceded in death by her parents, Lionel and Gretchen Babin, her grandparents, Daily Simon and Althea Mitchell Simon, her uncles, Herman Broussard, Herbert Broussard, Joseph E. Simon, Louis Simon, Albert Simon Sr., her aunt, Marie Simon, and her father-in-law, Yorick Guillory Sr. Rena leaves many loving memories to her husband, Rick; son, Simon; aunt, Martha Jones; and a host of relatives and friends.
