In Loving Memory oRuth Sam White

Ruth Ann Sam White was born to Leo P., Sr. and Virginia Gardiner Sam on November 21, 1921 in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. Ruth was baptized at an early age into her Catholic Faith. She became a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at the age of six years old when her family moved to Beaumont, Texas and she remained a faithful member until her death. Ruth loved being a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church family for over 92 years of her life where she made her First Communion, attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, made her Confirmation and married the love of her life……Robert Elmer White.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, her parents, sister, Louella Sam Pitre, brother, Leo P. Sam, Jr., niece, Sheila Pitre, nephew, Robert White whom she and her husband loved and raised as a son.

She organized a group called the “Young Adults” acting as a mentor and advisor for young people. The group honored her on January 28, 2007.  She also founded “The Brown Bag Program” at Blessed Sacrament and volunteered with “Catholic Charities” during their early organizational years.

Ruth also loved being an active member of the “Third Age Faith Group” at her church and the “Jazzy Seniors”.

Ruth was active in numerous organizations: “Church Women United” “2005 Donor of the Year for Hospitalized Veterans” and a celebrant for 100 years “Ladies of Grace Mary Ann Chapter 8”.

Ruth leaves cherished memories to her devoted cousins, William R. and Mary Sam, and Frances Sam Graham; special friend, Ann Monette; nephew, Gregory Pitre, wife and his family; cousins, Harrison and Irene Gardiner, William James Carter, Asarena Joseph, Joseph Sterling and many, many other relatives, church family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made in Ruth’s honor to her church Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 780 Porter St., Beaumont, Texas 77701, phone number – 409.833.6089, Rev. Paul Ofoha, MSP, Pastor.

Ruth passed from her earthly labor to begin her journey to her HEAVENLY reward on Monday, April 27, 2020.

There will be a visitation from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. for Mrs. Ruth Sam White on Friday, May 1, 2020 at Comeaux Community Funeral Chapel.

She will take her earthly rest at Magnolia Cemetery and Mausoleum. Her entombment will be officiated by Father Paul Ofoha, MSP.

The family of Ruth White would like to express our deepest gratitude to the nurses and aides at Nurse Station 1, the staff of Focus Care at Summer Place, the Altus Hospice nurses and Dr. Msonthi B.
