His Legacy
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:7

Carey Russell Merchant, 53 of Beaumont, TX took flight from the comfort of his home on April 6, 2017.

Carey was born January 6, 1964 in Kountze, TX to the late James V. Sr. & Billie Sue Merchant as the youngest of fourteen children. After high school, Carey began his work pouring concrete for various companies, making slab driveways for new additions. Carey later worked with Beaumont Machine Works, for many years, until his retirement disability. He took great pride in being a very dependable, hard worker. On December 23, 1992, Carey married the love of his life, Darolyn Jones and to this union there was one daughter, and a loving son whom he raised. Carey accepted Christ as his personal Lord & Savior at an early age.

Carey enjoyed life to the fullest and was always eager to be heard by “keeping it real”. Those who knew Carey best will evermore recall some of his favorite quotes… Carey alright with his self, or “It is what it is, baby girl”, or even an occasional “what up dog, I call it like I see it”. Most famous line when leaving you…HOLLA! Carey enjoyed family, fishing in his leisure time and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his dad, and brothers, James V. Merchant Sr, Alfred (Rook) Merchant, and Ronald Pryor (Mr. Woody).

His love lingers in the hearts of his Mother Ms. Billie S. Merchant, one daughter, Anastasia Merchant-Farr (Mark), a step son Eric Jones, and three grandchildren, Chace, Mark Jr, and Avah. Siblings are George Pryor (Dorothy) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Frances Teal (James) of Pearland, TX, James V. Merchant Jr. (Ilene) of Henderson, TX, Yvonne Matthews (Bishop L.D. Matthews) of Silsbee, TX, Donna Beard (Gaither) of Port Neches, TX, Tanya Milburn (E.S.) off Beaumont, TX, Mark Merchant (Mary) of Joinerville, TX , Toni Paley, Fred Merchant (Murrell) both of Beaumont, TX and Douglas Merchant (Michelle) of Hillister, TX. Carey leaves thirty five nieces and nephews, Sixty Two great nieces and nephews, and two great-great nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life services will be on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Magnolia Missionary Baptist Church located at 2830 Pine St. in Beaumont. There will be a visitation 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. Carey will take his earthly rest Kirby Cemetery in Silsbee, Texas under the professional care and direction of Comeaux-Community Funeral Chapel in Beaumont.
