Brother David Lee Pugh, Sr.

David Lee Pugh, Sr. was born on January 5, 1927 in Beaumont, Texas. He was the seventh of seven children born to the parentage of the late Turner and Louise Pugh.

David attended Beaumont Public Schools. He graduated from Charlton Pollard High School in 1944. After high school he joined the Navy. After serving six years in the Navy, he returned to Beaumont.

Upon his return to Beaumont, he met and married Callie DeVault on June 11, 1949 and two children were born to their union. They were married 53 years before her death.

David was the first Black, Floor Tech Manager for Weingarten Grocers in Southeast Texas. After 33 plus years he retired.

At an early age he accepted Christ as his personal savior and was baptized at McKinley Ave Baptist Church. David later moved his membership to Mount Gilead Baptist Church where he was a diligent and faithful servant until his death. He was a deacon for 50 plus years and a member of the following organizations: Deacons and Ministers Wives Ministry, Evangelism Team, Kitchen Ministry and Male Chorus.

He leaves to cherish his memory: one son, David Lee Pugh, Jr. (Jennifer) of Schertz, Texas; one daughter, Debbie Jo Pugh Smith of Beaumont, Texas; six grandchildren, Carol Pugh of Meriden, CT, Patrice Olson (Christopher) of Canton, CT, LeKeisha, Angelique, Derrick, and David Smith all of Beaumont, Texas; nine great-grandchildren, Annika and Mathew Olson of Canton, CT, Jauaron Birdow, Braylen Jacques, Malachi Smith, Trinity Smith, Contessa Smith, Layla Smith and Kalvyn Smith, all of Beaumont and a very dear friend, Mrs. Josephine Jones and a host of relatives and friends.
